We started our process by being split into groups. We then sat with our groups and brainstormed ideas around the vague text we were given. We had watched a few examples of past productions from this brief which helped us gage some ideas and understand some of the shot types we are aiming to produce. My group and I brain stormed ideas around a murder but we were certain that we wanted an unexpected twist. We also played with the idea of a powerful leader and their sidekicks. We then created an idea of each character having a different level of power. After a few more discussions, we made our final plan and plot. Our piece was going to be based around a group of four students who are the ‘popular group’ in school. With the idea of a murder in our mind map, we produced the narrative of one of the members being killed off so that the killer could take their power. Playing with this idea of power, we used the colour red to signify power. We agreed that each charter would wear red and the more red you wear= the more power you have over the group. The next lesson we started to film. We used a mix of panning shots, medium shots, close ups and we also played with lighting to create silhouettes as a sign of secrecy. We all has a go with using the camera and filming different shots and we set up a tripod to get a shot of us walking. We gave a couple characters a key prop that they would always have. This was done so that each character was recognizable without seeing their face. For example, I had a lip-gloss and hand mirror that I held in most scenes to signify my character but also gives the audience an idea of my characters personality. This process was very fun and helped us all get an understanding of how to produce a short film.
